The device amangement screens are used as an infrastructure for several SaaS products. The main screen helps in managing all the organization’s devices: both managed (agent installed) and unmanaged (no agent installed). Administrators can check the status of devices, get information on them, and do actions such as policy assignment, device tagging (for filtering and batch actions), agent installation, etc.
Challenges & Solutions
- Information Overload:
Challenge:
Admins need to manage a large number of devices, both managed and unmanaged, which can be overwhelming.
Solution:
Implementing a hierarchical system tree structure, allowing admins to easily navigate through different groups and sub-groups. Filters and tags help to quickly find specific devices or groups. - Device Status and Information Clarity:
Challenge:
Presenting detailed information about each device in a clear and accessible manner.
Solution:
Dividing information into tabs such as General, Status, Device, Policies, and Activity Log. This compartmentalizes data, making it easier to find and reducing cognitive load. - Action Execution:
Challenge:
Admins need to perform actions like policy assignment, tagging, and agent installation efficiently.
Solution:
Contextual menus and action buttons placed intuitively within the interface. The use of checkboxes for selecting multiple devices for batch actions enhances productivity. - Visual Consistency and Navigation:
Challenge:
Ensuring visual consistency across different screens and ease of navigation.
Solution:
Maintaining a consistent design language with uniform iconography, color schemes, and layout structures. Side navigation panels and breadcrumb trails help users understand their location within the system. - Filtering and Grouping Devices:
Challenge:
Managing large device inventories requires powerful filtering and grouping capabilities.
Solution:
Implementing advanced filtering options (e.g., by tags, managed/unmanaged status) and the ability to create and manage custom groups. The system tree allows dynamic viewing of devices within selected groups and sub-groups. - Detailed Device Actions and Logs:
Challenge:
Providing detailed actions and logs for individual devices in an understandable format.
Solution:
Detailed views for each device that include activity logs, device information, and policy assignments. The activity log tab shows a chronological list of actions performed, improving transparency and auditability.
By addressing these challenges with thoughtful UX design, the Device Management screens provide a robust tool for administrators to efficiently manage and monitor their organization’s devices.
